The importance of the Vertical Corridor was highlighted by Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Zagreb, Croatia, during his participation in the European People’s Party conference. Specifically, during his meeting with Boyko Borisov, the Prime Minister stated: “I want to emphasize the importance of the Vertical Corridor. It is a significant and strategic investment for both countries as we seek to move away from Russian natural gas,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during his meeting with Boyko Borisov.
Mitsotakis on Vertical Corridor: “In my mind it’s not just about energy”
“The strategic cooperation with the US is already delivering reliable results. Yesterday we had a first agreement for transporting natural gas from Greece to Ukraine which shows the importance of this very significant initiative, which is simultaneously economic and geopolitical. In my mind, the Vertical Corridor is not just about energy. It also concerns highways, it concerns trade as well as full interconnections between Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. And this significantly increases the geopolitical value of our countries,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
It should be noted that the Prime Minister held important meetings in Croatia, within the framework of the European People’s Party conference. More specifically, the Prime Minister met with European leaders, on the sidelines of the EPP Leaders Retreat. Mr. Mitsotakis met with the former Prime Minister of Bulgaria and president of the governing GERB party, Boyko Borisov, as well as with the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland and Finance Minister, Simon Harris. During his meeting with Mr. Borisov, the Prime Minister discussed, among other things, the issue of the Vertical Corridor, emphasizing the importance of the project for strengthening energy security and diversifying energy sources and routes in the broader region of Southeast Europe. Finally, it is noted that in these contacts, Mr. Mitsotakis was accompanied by the Secretary of International Relations of New Democracy and MP for Serres, Tasos Chatzivasiliou.
