The parliamentary ethics committee of the Greek Parliament decided not to lift the immunity of Communist Party (KKE) General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumpas, following a lawsuit filed against him by lawyer Konstantinos Plevris. The lawsuit concerned alleged violations of party financing laws by the KKE. Members of parliament from New Democracy, PASOK, SYRIZA and New Left voted against lifting immunity, while MPs from Greek Solution, Niki and Course of Freedom reserved their positions for the plenary session.
At the same time, the ethics committee decided by majority vote to lift the immunity of PASOK’s parliamentary representative Dimitris Mantzos, following a defamation lawsuit filed by Spartans party leader Vasilis Stigkas. It is worth noting that Mantzos himself had requested that his immunity be lifted.
