Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis addressed the provision regarding child custody that was included in an urgent bill for OPEKEPE, and the criticism about it being a “custom-made” law, since the first person to use it was Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni for the custody case of her children following her divorce from Minos Matsas. “This is not a custom-made provision, it was voted by 2/3 of parliament and a minister doesn’t have fewer rights than any citizen,” the Health Minister argued through a social media post. “The fact that a Minister used such a provision is not reprehensible, a citizen doesn’t have fewer rights because they are a Minister,” emphasized Mr. Georgiadis.

Georgiadis’s social media statement

Specifically, Adonis Georgiadis stated through a post on X: “So regarding the controversial issue that emerged last night and caused justified concern among citizens. The Justice Minister proved moments ago to @OpenNewsGr that:

A) There was no unrelated nighttime or morning amendment but a normal legislative procedure for 8 provisions by the Justice Ministry in the Bill.

B) These 8 provisions were in the body of the Bill and were normally discussed in 4 sessions of the relevant Committee and 2 days in the Plenary. Organizations were called etc., meaning the entire Parliamentary procedure was followed.

C) No other Ministry or Minister was involved in its submission but it was an exclusive initiative of the Justice Ministry.

D) It was finally voted in favor by 180 MPs, namely by New Democracy, the Communist Party and 3 Independents while SYRIZA, Greek Solution and Victory voted Present. That means it had approval and tolerance from 2/3 of Parliament.

The fact that a Minister used such a provision is not reprehensible, a citizen doesn’t have fewer rights because they are a Minister.

In any case, there was no custom-made amendment, as the issue was presented to Public Opinion everything is wrong and this Government would never allow such a thing to happen for any of us”.
