A video circulating on X has caused political upheaval in Cyprus as it suggests allegations of financial irregularities and corruption regarding Nikos Christodoulides’ presidential campaign. The video was published by the Emily Thompson account, and features former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, Director of the President’s Office Charalambos Charalambous, and Director of Cyfield Group, Giorgos Chrysocho. The post on this account is titled “Bombshell Video Exposes Cyprus President’s Shadow Cash Machine.” However, the Cypriot government is attempting to downplay the issue, calling it “mud-slinging” and a “targeted attack” aimed at undermining the President at a critical juncture, as developments in the Cyprus issue are expected within 2026 and Cyprus holds the Presidency of the European Council.
