The condolences on behalf of the Foreign Ministry for the deadly tragedy in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, were expressed by Deputy Foreign Minister Yannis Loverdos, speaking on New Year’s morning on ERT News. “This is something that causes pain and sorrow to everyone. We hope to have more information soon. From the first moment, the Greek diplomatic authorities in Bern were mobilized, but the causes of the fire are still unknown. We hope there are no Greeks among the victims,” emphasized Mr. Loverdos. “Fortunately, this is not a terrorist attack,” he added.

Switzerland: Dozens dead from explosion in Crans-Montana
At least ten people were killed and another ten injured in an explosion at a bar in Crans-Montana, a well-known ski resort in Switzerland, reported British network Sky News citing police, who clarified that the incident does not appear to be terrorism-related.

So far, in its official announcement, the Valais Canton Police reports that there are multiple deaths and injuries from the fire that broke out in a bar following an explosion. “Around 01:30 in the morning an incident occurred in Crans-Montana. Assistance is being provided to many injured. I can confirm that there are multiple casualties,” said Gaetan Laton, police spokesperson.
The explosion and subsequent fire occurred around 01:30 local time (02:30 Greek time) at Le Constellation bar, frequented by tourists, during New Year’s celebrations. The area has been completely cordoned off, while a no-fly zone has been imposed over Crans-Montana, police noted. Images broadcast by Swiss media show a burning building and rescue teams.
According to Swiss media outlet Blick, citing police, more than 100 people were in the bar at the time of the explosion. Crans-Montana is a luxury ski resort in the heart of the Swiss Alps, about two hours from Bern.
