On Wednesday, June 16, the Parliament will hold a debate on three proposals for the establishment of a preliminary investigation committee regarding the Tempi train crash. The lengthy and unprecedented parliamentary procedure – due to the 14 political figures proposed for referral to the preliminary investigation – will begin at 9 AM and is expected to conclude at 9 PM. A secret ballot will immediately follow, with results expected in the early morning hours of Thursday. During the Conference of Presidents, four opposition parties – KKE, New Left, Course of Freedom, SYRIZA – requested that MPs vote on each offense separately. However, this was rejected by a vote of 18 – 8. Therefore, the vote will be conducted per referral proposal.
Regarding the 14 ballot boxes to be set up, they correspond to the 14 political figures included in the referral proposals, with Kostas Ach Karamanlis – included in all three proposals – being in the first box. Up to ballot box 8 will contain the names proposed by PASOK, while the remaining boxes will contain the names of the other individuals. It’s worth noting that Parliament has received 4,200 ballots for the secret voting procedure.
Finally, tomorrow Tuesday the ballot papers will be distributed to the parties, while each MP can vote for one to three proposals. Regarding the list of party speakers, the Parliament presidency expects it by tomorrow.
