Asked to comment on the GPO poll conducted for Parapolitika 90.1
T.PLEVRIS: When polls are conducted at times that are politically not close to elections, we understand there is significant room for improvement both due to rallying effects and because we have about a year and a half until elections, so you can convince even more people and win back voters, especially when it appears that no alternative governance is being formed. I believe we need to work on citizens’ problems to improve our percentages.
Regarding the poll finding that 33.2% of respondents support the four parties’ proposal for establishing a preliminary investigation committee for Tempe
T.PLEVRIS: I doubt whether citizens have read the proposal. They prefer it because it comes from some of the relatives. There is an emotional bond with the relatives.
Regarding New Democracy’s proposal for a Tempe preliminary investigation
T.PLEVRIS: Our proposal is absolutely balanced based on the available evidence, and I believe ND members of parliament will support it in its entirety. However, my personal position is that it creates no political issue whatsoever if a member of parliament distances themselves in a vote related to establishing a preliminary investigation or referring a minister from the position the party holds. I believe, though, that we won’t have such a case with us; on the contrary, you might see such cases in other parties.
T.PLEVRIS: You will ultimately see that the votes our ND proposal will receive will be more than our parliamentary majority.
