“The goal we have set at the health ministry is to have absorbed all resources from the Recovery Fund by June 30, 2026,” said Adonis Georgiadis. “We will not leave even one euro unused from this specific fund,” declared the health minister during his speech at the inauguration of the Health Center in Amyntaio, following its renovation.

Adonis Georgiadis from Amyntaio at health center inauguration: “We have transformed the image of the country’s hospitals”
Mr. Georgiadis noted that fund absorption is progressing rapidly, reaching 614 million euros in 2025 compared to 370 million euros in 2024. “We have transformed the image of the country’s hospitals. Out of 127 hospitals, we have carried out renovation and modernization works in 80. Today’s image bears no resemblance to what we knew a few years ago,” the minister noted, emphasizing that the New Democracy government managed to double the health budget. He added that in 2019 the budget included 4 billion euros in health expenditures, and today, with the 2026 budget discussion, the corresponding amount reaches 8 billion euros. “This shows the kind of work we are doing in this sector,” he added. Referring to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center (KEFAIP) in Amyntaio, he noted that the study for its development into a Rehabilitation and Care Center in northern Greece is being completed, reiterated that the facility’s public character remains 100% as he had emphasized in a previous visit, and stressed that his desire is for this magnificent complex to be fully utilized, offering services to Western Macedonia.
Addressing the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia Giorgos Amanatidis, he stated that he would like to attend a regional council meeting to discuss changes that could be made in the region, especially regarding the health map. He also clarified that any changes will not happen automatically or overnight, as adjustment time is needed. The budget for the renovation works of the Amyntaio Health Center was 1.5 million euros, and as Mr. Georgiadis mentioned, the facility is now one of the jewels of the region in primary healthcare. Finally, referring to Mamatsio Hospital in Kozani where construction work on the new wing is completing in a few days, he emphasized that approximately 54 million euros have been allocated in total, an amount that has not been provided, he said, even to large tertiary care hospitals located in major urban centers.
