The team of Alexis Tsipras is moving at full speed toward the final stretch of establishing his new party. They estimate that the political momentum must not be lost and citizen expectations must not diminish, as people are waiting for quick moves from the former prime minister. Organizational cores have already begun operating within the self-organization framework that Alexis Tsipras himself has put on the table. In Messenia, one of the first cores has started functioning and will constitute the organizational mechanism of the future political entity in the region. At the same time, they want to send the message that this movement is not simply about achieving a good recording of opposition forces, but about claiming victory against New Democracy in the upcoming elections.
The high level of activity is also reflected in the processes for program development. This work has been undertaken by the Alexis Tsipras Institute. In this context, it is expected that in the upcoming presentations of “Ithaca”, which function as campaign tours, Alexis Tsipras will speak programmatically based on positions that Institute members have already developed across various sectors. In this logic, former rector and Institute member Triantafyllos Albanis revealed his cards. “You will hear new, very different things from the program that the Institute will prepare,” he emphasized. With these developments, Tsipras’s party is organizing cores throughout the country and finalizing its program on key points, so that official announcements can come with the new year. Moreover, none of the former prime minister’s associates rule out the possibility of an electoral surprise from Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the fall. This parameter makes them accelerate all procedures to be ready.
PASOK: Broad invitation
At the same time, on the other side of the center-left, preparations are underway for a congress. PASOK’s congress procedures will take place on March 27-29, with the goal of increasing the party’s percentages and expanding it. Already under PASOK’s microscope is Nina Kasimati’s activity, who voted in favor of defense spending against the SYRIZA party line. More and more people estimate that the SYRIZA MP is very likely to move toward PASOK, from which she originally came. In this context, Nikos Androulakis will address a broad invitation to officials and forces even if they had departed from the main opposition party in the past. As Kostas Skandalidis notes, who is responsible for the party’s expansion committee, only those who launched vulgarities against PASOK in the past are excluded from this call.
The new polling calculations will come in mid-new year, and the battle for dominance in the center-left will peak in March when PASOK holds its congress and Alexis Tsipras establishes his party.
