“Greece constitutes a pillar of Europe’s energy security,” emphasized Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastayrou from Brussels, against the backdrop of the Zappeion agreements. He traveled there today (15/12) with Deputy Minister Nikos Tsafos for the EU Energy Ministers Council. He also spoke of “recognition” of Greek efforts to “reduce the electricity price imbalance in Europe.”
Stavros Papastayrou’s statements
Entering the Council chamber, Mr. Papastayrou made the following statement: “Today’s meeting of EU Energy Ministers bears a strong Greek imprint. The European networks package constitutes recognition of Greece’s efforts and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ initiatives to reduce electricity price imbalances in Europe. We still have a long way to go. However, this is an important first step toward creating a unified, resilient energy market with energy security for all. Energy security is national security. And the participation of a NATO representative in the meeting underscores exactly that. Greece constitutes a pillar of Europe’s energy security and, with the energy agreements we signed at the Zappeion, we are acquiring a central role in the new Euro-Atlantic energy architecture. We are moving decisively toward abundant and affordable energy for everyone. Thank you very much.”
