Government Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis spoke about a change in Europe’s energy future regarding recent agreements by Greek companies to import American liquefied natural gas. The deals “strengthen Greece’s geopolitical significance” and “contribute to further strengthening Greek-American relations,” but also “reshape Europe’s energy future because they significantly change the energy map,” Hatzidakis stated in his Bloomberg TV interview with Vonnie Quinn in New York. “There are some ideas for further strengthening our energy relations,” he added.

As Bloomberg reports, “his comments come as Greece seeks to become a natural gas transit hub for the region, while Europe works toward a complete ban on Russian supplies. Ukraine is also struggling to secure energy for winter after Russian air strikes destroyed more than half of its domestic natural gas production.”

Meanwhile, there is also reference to Kyriakos Pierrakakis’s candidacy for the Eurogroup presidency, with Bloomberg emphasizing that it is an indication that “Greece has moved beyond the days of the debt crisis from over a decade ago.”
For his part, Hatzidakis stated that the Pierrakakis candidacy “underlines that Greece is implementing successful economic policy.”
