Government members will discuss today in the Cabinet meeting the latest major reforms that will begin implementation during 2025, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis presiding over the session before important international contacts.
Specifically, the Prime Minister will host a dinner for the President of the European People’s Party and its Parliamentary Group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, while tomorrow Friday he will meet with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, who will be in Athens for an official visit. They will then discuss with young people on the theme “Empowering the new generation of Europeans” at the National Gallery.
Strengthening collective labor agreements in the spotlight – Mitsotakis’ message
The first reform on today’s Cabinet table concerns the new social agreement for strengthening collective labor agreements, which will be presented by Labor and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus, with the Prime Minister placing it in a broader political and ideological framework. “For the first time we saw a minister from a center-right party sitting between the President of GSEE and the President of the Association of Enterprises and Industries, supported by other social partners, collaborating, agreeing, workers and employers, and reaching an agreement that transcends the last memorandum restrictions, restoring full collective bargaining,” emphasized Mr. Mitsotakis.
Inheritance contracts
The second reform that will be implemented in the coming period is the revision of inheritance law, with an innovation being institutionalized for the first time in the country – inheritance contracts for both individual estates and businesses. This is a contract concluded before a notary, between the testator and heirs, so that the contracting parties make its content essentially unassailable, since everyone will have pre-signed it. Additionally, with the same bill, as Deputy Justice Minister Bougas explained on ERT, “today the legal share is half of the undivided portion that someone is entitled to if there is no will. Now we are increasing, in case there are spouse and children, the spouse’s percentage from 1/4 to 1/3, in case the heir is only one child, and to 1/4 if heirs are more than one children. That is, provision is made mainly for the surviving spouse in relation to descendants to the children of the deceased.”
The major change in urban planning
The third reform involves a unified organization that will be called to consolidate competencies and provide solutions to problems that have been created for years with urban planning services. “Just as gov.gr doesn’t ask who you are to serve you, so will Urban Planning services function properly tomorrow!” Kyriakos Mitsotakis had emphasized in his last speech to the New Democracy Parliamentary Group. For some time, the government has been planning a radical change regarding Building Services (YDOM), aiming at better service to citizens and businesses, as well as restoring order and transparency. The transfer of YDOM to the Hellenic Cadastre and thus creating a unified organization for real estate and construction, with Municipalities however retaining part of the responsibilities, will be presented during the Cabinet meeting.
