With particularly high participation and in an atmosphere of normalcy, internal elections of New Democracy continue today, Sunday November 23, through which party members elect new local representatives as well as delegates for the upcoming Regular Congress. A total of 122,546 active members have the opportunity to vote for the selection of Presidents and members of the councils of 59 Regional Electoral Committees (DEPP) and 330 Municipal Local Organizations (DIMTO), as well as for 1,000 delegates who will participate in the party’s Congress. The number of participants has increased compared to the previous internal elections of 2021, with a strong presence of many new members.
The process is proceeding smoothly both at polling centers and through electronic voting, which continues according to the model that New Democracy has implemented since 2021. Polls remain open until 7:00 PM. The Central Electoral Committee (KEFE) and the party’s Organizational Secretariat coordinate the electoral process at over 1,200 polling stations throughout Greece.
Turnout is particularly high in many areas, with characteristic examples being Heraklion, Trikala and Achaia. In Heraklion, voting is proceeding smoothly since morning with a steady flow of members, while at the Cultural Center of Trikala turnout is deemed increased and the process is without problems. In Achaia, over 18,000 members are actively participating, with 267 candidates competing for positions in DIMTO, DEPP and representation at the Congress.
