The US State Department has decided on a complete return to the old doctrine of dismantling terrorist and far-left extremist organizations internationally, even placing them on the same list as ISIS, Al Qaeda and Hezbollah. Among the four organizations linked to the Antifa movement are two Greek groups: Armed Revolutionary Justice and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense, whose members remain at large, just like the uncaptured members of their predecessor organizations.
US dismantling of terrorist organizations: the same method as 17N and ELA
Something similar happened in the 1990s when the State Department and CIA extensively investigated 17N and ELA, searching for leaders in anti-establishment groups from the Junta era and earlier, as well as their connections to the Italian Red Brigades, German RAF (Red Army Faction), the Carlos network, and others. The intelligence they gathered alongside British Scotland Yard led to developments in eradicating these organizations.
Regarding Armed Proletarian Justice, they carried out a failed operation when on December 18, 2023, they placed a bomb on the side wall of the riot police headquarters at Zografou University Campus. The target selection, materials, bombers’ movements, and the proclamation they issued days later surprised the Counter-Terrorism Unit as they resembled earlier extremists from OLA (Popular Fighters Organization).
The activities of Popular Fighters Organization and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense
OLA carried out 8 attacks between 2013-2019, launching assaults on New Democracy offices on Syngrou Avenue, the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises on Xenophontos Street, the German ambassador’s residence in Chalandri, and the Israeli embassy in Psychiko. The style of their proclamations is identical to Armed Proletarian Justice texts, and concerns about possible reemergence of old and new members continue to intensify.
Something similar is happening with Revolutionary Class Self-Defense, responsible for a bomb explosion in February 2024 at a construction site entrance opposite the Labor Ministry on Stadiou Street and for a low-power device at Hellenic Train offices on Syngrou Avenue last April. One of the members – according to Counter-Terrorism – is connected to the circle of student Kyriakos Xymitris, who died tragically on the afternoon of October 31, 2024, in Ampelokipoi when a bomb he was constructing exploded on him.
The two organizations are inextricably linked, guided by an old acquaintance of Greek police, aged 65, while the “main scenario“ includes the name of a deceased criminal and an imprisoned terrorist.
As for the involvement of German Antifa Ost and Italian FAI (Informal Anarchist Federation) in Greek groups, it’s speculated this stems from Antifa’s branch in Non-Governmental Organizations active in migrant rescue operations and Gaza missions.
