The local community in Spata Achaia is in shock after a tragic accident that claimed the life of a three-year-old boy. The child’s 25-year-old uncle reportedly lost his balance after hitting a balcony, resulting in both falling while the uncle was holding the child in his arms.
According to reports, the incident occurred just before 4:00 PM on Monday afternoon, in the Agios Nikolaos area of Spata in western Achaia.
Achaia accident: grandfather breaks his silence
The three-year-old boy’s grandfather spoke in shock on the show “Truths with Zina,” describing the dramatic moments:
“We had the child because his parents were working. He was restless and my nephew took him to see the little pigs and rabbits, hoping he would calm down. While they were walking, he had the child in his arms. He hit his head on a balcony, became dizzy and they fell together from a height of two to three meters. I was the first to pick up the child and took him to the Health Center. I couldn’t do anything, the child died,” he said with tears in his eyes.
The little boy was initially taken to the Kato Achaia Health Center and then to the Karamandaneio Children’s Hospital. Despite doctors’ superhuman efforts for 40 minutes to revive him, the head injuries proved fatal.
Achaia accident: what the 25-year-old uncle says and what authorities investigate
The 25-year-old uncle is hospitalized with minor injuries at “Agios Andreas” hospital in Patras. According to his statement, he was holding the child while walking at the edge of the road and, when he hit his head on a balcony, he lost his balance and they fell together from a height of about two meters.
Police have opened a case file for manslaughter by negligence and are examining two scenarios:
-Whether the child fell while being held by his uncle
-Or whether a collision with a motorcycle that crashed into a wall preceded the fall.
The results of the forensic report are expected to shed light on the exact causes of death.
The child’s parents, who were working in the fields at the time, are in a tragic psychological state. As it became known, they do not wish for criminal prosecution of the 25-year-old.
The funeral of the little boy will be held tomorrow (13/11) at 10:30 AM, at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Spata, Achaia.
