Chaos erupted at the 1st Primary School of Porto Rafti when chunks of plaster broke off from the ceiling and fell on students, injuring two children.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning (November 5, 2025), highlighting once again the serious maintenance and safety problems facing many school buildings.
Porto Rafti: Complaints about state indifference and “crumbling schools”
The Teachers’ Association of Eastern Attica “Kostas Sotiriou” issued a statement denouncing state indifference and underfunding, which they say has left schools “to decay.”
The incident, as the Association points out, occurred just days after an inspection by OASP (Earthquake Protection Organization) on October 27, where assurances were given that everything was fine.
“Ceilings are falling in our schools due to state indifference and underfunding,” the statement characteristically notes, demanding immediate technical inspection and safety certification for all school classrooms.
Meanwhile, the Association characterizes the deterioration of school buildings as “dangerous and criminal,” denouncing that the State is “playing with the lives of children and teachers.”
