Forty-two agricultural and forest fires were recorded in the last twenty-four hours across the country, according to an official update from the Fire Service.
Of these, 36 were dealt with immediately, being contained in their initial stage thanks to the timely intervention of firefighting forces. However, six fires remain active and are currently being tackled by ground and aerial forces.
Investigation underway into causes of fires
The causes of the fires are being investigated by local Fire Service investigative offices, in cooperation with teams from the Arson Crime Response Directorate (D.A.E.E.).
The competent authorities are calling on citizens to remain vigilant and exercise increased caution, especially on days with high risk indices, in order to avoid further burdening the already demanding operational work.
