Schools in Borizia (kindergarten and elementary) and Zaros (elementary and middle school) in Heraklion prefecture will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday, November 3 and 4, following recent tragic events in the area. On orders from Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Minister Sofia Zacharaki, a special team of child psychologists and social workers will travel to Crete to support the school community, particularly students in the affected areas.
Once the police operation is completed and normalcy is restored, the team will visit the schools in Borizia and Zaros, providing psychological and social support to students, parents and teachers.
Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki and General Secretary of Primary, Secondary Education and Special Education Yannis Papadomarkakis have been in constant communication with the Mayor of Phaistos and local education officials from the outset to immediately coordinate the deployment of the scientific support team.
This mission aims to support students and their families, with emphasis on providing Psychological First Aid, strengthening the sense of security and connecting with long-term psychological care services where deemed necessary.
