Citizens have until November 5 to complete the activation process of their Personal Number (P.A.), in order to avoid delays and problems in their transactions with the public sector. It should be noted that the Personal Number will constitute the new unified identification tool, gradually replacing the tax number (AFM) and social security number (AMKA). For activation, users must log into the gov.gr platform using their personal Taxisnet codes and confirm their details. Those who cannot complete the process electronically can contact a Citizens’ Service Center (KEP) or a Consular Authority.
What is the Personal Number issuance process
The process is fully digital and simple. Citizens log into the myinfo.gov.gr application using their Taxisnet credentials and confirm their personal details. Then, they select the “P.A. Issuance” section.
The number is generated automatically using the following system:
- The P.A. consists of 12 alphanumeric characters, of which at least 9 are numbers.
- It includes 3 alphanumeric elements as a prefix and the 9 digits of the individual’s tax number (AFM).
- In the alphanumeric elements, only numbers 0–9 and capital letters of the Greek alphabet that correspond to Latin characters are allowed.
- The third digit is automatically generated as a validity check digit.
The process is completed by selecting “P.A. Issuance,” at which point the new number is immediately assigned to the citizen.
Personal Number: Importance and consequences of non-activation
Activating the Personal Number is essential for the smooth operation of basic services. Those who do not proceed in time may face difficulties in critical processes such as:
- Submitting tax returns
- Paying social security contributions
- Electronic transactions with the public sector
Simply put, by November 5, all citizens must have issued their new Personal Number in order to continue their transactions smoothly with public services and the state’s digital systems.
