The number of fatal traffic accidents during the October 28th holiday weekend was significantly lower this year. According to data from the Greek Police, during the period from Friday, October 24 to Tuesday, October 28, six fatal traffic accidents were recorded with an equal number of deaths, compared to 14 during the corresponding period last year. This fact was also highlighted by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking at the cabinet meeting: “This year, thanks to traffic police planning and the new Highway Code, fatal accidents during the four-day weekend – last year it was a three-day weekend – were less than half compared to last year, a significant improvement. And I believe that when we are given the opportunity to review the statistical data for the year together with the competent Deputy Minister, we will draw strength from the fact that we are moving in the right direction, with still a long way to go, but it is clear that something is changing in the field of road behavior and the reduction of fatal accidents“.
