The Lesbos Port Authority was notified in the early morning hours today (27/10) to provide assistance to a boat in distress carrying migrants in the sea area of Katsinia Bay. A Coast Guard patrol vessel and an offshore patrol vessel were dispatched to the location, where they located and rescued seven migrants while recovering four unconscious individuals. The migrants were transported by patrol vessel to Lesbos port, where two of the rescued were taken by ambulance to Lesbos General Hospital, while the remaining five were taken to the KARA TEPE “MAVROVOUNI” reception center. The four bodies were handed over to the North Aegean Forensic Medical Service for autopsy.
Search operations continued with the patrol vessel, offshore patrol vessel, a SUPER PUMA helicopter from the Air Force, a FRONTEX helicopter, and a Coast Guard patrol vehicle on land.
During midday hours today, following ground searches by the Lesbos Police Department, an additional twenty-four migrants were located in the mountainous “OROS” area, who were transferred to the KARA TEPE “MAVROVOUNI” reception center. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Central Port Authority of Lesbos.
In the early morning hours today, the Oinousses Port Authority was informed about the presence of migrants on Panagia Oinousses island. Immediately, a Coast Guard rescue vessel was dispatched to the location, which collected thirty-two migrants (10 men, 7 women, 15 minors) and safely transported them to Chios port. Subsequently, the migrants were handed over to the Chios Reception and Identification Center for registration and identification. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Oinousses Port Station.
Piraeus: Cargo ship mechanical failure addressed
In the early morning hours today, the Keratsini Port Authority was notified of a mechanical failure on a Turkish-flagged cargo ship in the sea area outside Piraeus port. The cargo vessel safely arrived at Piraeus anchorage, where it carried out repairs of the mechanical failure with its own means. The 2nd Port Department of Keratsini of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus prohibited the cargo ship’s departure until the submission of a class maintenance certificate from the competent marine surveyor.
