The Fire Service is on heightened alert as strong winds combined with high temperatures create an explosive mix that significantly increases the risk of wildfires in several regions across the country. According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, for today, Wednesday July 2, very high fire risk (category 4) is forecast for several areas.
Authorities are calling on citizens to be particularly careful and avoid any outdoor activities that could cause a wildfire.
According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map, for today Wednesday (2/07), very high fire risk (category 4) is forecast for the following areas:
- Attica
- Kythira
- Argolida
- parts of Laconia
- parts of Corinthia
- southern Evia
- Crete
- Lesbos
- Chios
- Psara
- Samos
- Ikaria
Additionally, high fire risk (risk category 3) applies to several areas of both the islands and mainland Greece.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the relevant state services, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, to be on heightened civil protection readiness to immediately respond to any fire incidents.
