Authorities in Chania have sounded the alarm following a deadly shooting that occurred during a festival in the village of Elos claiming the life of a 50-year-old man.

The perpetrator who is a relative of the victim disappeared after the murder and remains at large.
The incident occurred earlier this afternoon during the chestnut festival. The two men were in the village square enjoying the festivities.
Suddenly they got into an argument and during the heated exchange the 25-year-old pulled out a gun and shot his relative at least twice.
Chania murder: Fears of vendetta
By the time police arrived at the scene, the perpetrator had fled while the victim, despite being rushed to hospital, could not be saved by doctors. Fears of triggering a vendetta in the small Chania village are evident and strong police forces have already rushed to the area both to locate the perpetrator and prevent possible retaliation against the homes of both families.

At the Chestnut Festival in Elos, two gunshots were heard without warning. Everything happened, according to initial reports, in front of the crowd and performers who were singing. A person fell bloodied to the ground, unconscious! It is reported that the person who fired the shots rushed to leave the area, along with others from his group, amid the chaos that ensued.
A strong police force rushed to the scene, as well as an ambulance from the Kissamos Health Center, to immediately transport the shot man to the hospital. According to the Director of Chania Hospital, George Beas, the man did not survive and was transported dead to the medical facility, where his death was simply confirmed.

It should be noted that according to information from neakriti.gr, this is being described as a cold-blooded execution where the 50-year-old livestock farmer received three bullets to the heart during the chestnut festival. The perpetrator has been identified and is being sought, while the possibility of old family disputes is being investigated.
