One crucial detail emerging from sources at Athens’ “Evangelismos” hospital remains to be clarified regarding the tragic death of the 16-year-old girl in Gazi, central Athens. The causes of death will be determined exclusively through autopsy, necrotomy, toxicological and histological examinations to be conducted on the deceased teenager’s body.
According to unofficial but categorical reports available to parapolitika.gr, the “Evangelismos” hospital claims that duty doctors attempted at least five consecutive phone calls to the Syntagma Police Station during the early hours of last Sunday, but were unable to speak with the duty officer on any occasion.
This is certainly one version of events, and it remains a major question whether this can be proven, especially given that the Greek Police also categorically states they were never informed about the tragic incident, except by the 16-year-old’s father, twenty-four hours after the minor’s death.
Georgiadis on 16-year-old who died in Gazi: “The attempt to inform police was made, EKAB bears no responsibility”
On the same wavelength, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis stated Thursday morning that “when resuscitation attempts were completed, the hospital contacted the police.” He simultaneously emphasized that EKAB (National Emergency Medical Service) bears no responsibility, as “when they picked up the 16-year-old, the child was not technically dead yet.” Police sources said yesterday that the Hellenic Police were informed the next morning by the minor’s father, who approached officers at the Omonia Police Station and informed them of his daughter’s death, adding that there was no notification from either “Evangelismos” hospital or EKAB.
“The girl was immediately transported by EKAB. From the call until arrival, they reached Gazi in 7 minutes. The girl was picked up practically dead, pulseless with dilated pupils. They took her to Evangelismos following protocol, everything was done as it should have been – all resuscitation attempts, intubation and medications. The doctors did everything humanly possible to keep her alive. The attempt to inform police was made, EKAB bears no responsibility,” Adonis Georgiadis said Thursday morning on Action 24.

“The police were properly informed. What happened regarding the assessment of the incident, I don’t know. When doctors confirmed the death, they sent it for toxicological tests to the medical examiner and simultaneously informed the parents,” the Health Minister added.
“When EKAB picked her up, the child was technically still alive. What caused the death will be shown by toxicological tests, when they come out I’ll tell you what the girl had taken,” Mr. Georgiadis said further, adding that “when resuscitation efforts ended, the hospital contacted the police and the body was sent for forensic investigation as is done in cases of suspicious death.”
