Enhanced safety measures have been scheduled by the Greek Police ahead of the October 28th celebration, from Friday, October 24 through Tuesday, October 28, 2025, aimed at ensuring safe citizen mobility and preventing traffic accidents. The safety plan was implemented within the framework of specific orders from Greek Police headquarters for full and continuous activation, coordination and supervision of all Traffic Police Services, in order to ensure conditions of smooth and safe circulation throughout the country’s entire road network.

October 28th: Police announced measures include
– road network policing by sectors, based on the specific traffic conditions of each area,
– increased police presence and targeted policing at road network points where frequent traffic accidents occur,
– intensive traffic policing measures at entrances-exits of major urban centers where increased traffic flow is observed,
– special actions and enhanced traffic measures within cities,
– increased traffic measures in areas where mass passenger concentration occurs (airports, ports, stations, etc.),
– formation of general and special traffic control teams, focusing attention on certifying dangerous violations, as well as violations that according to statistical data are responsible for causing serious traffic accidents (excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, irregular overtaking, mobile phone use while driving, non-use of protective helmets and seat belts, violation of double dividing lines, etc.),
– timely ensuring cooperation and coordination with all competent authorities and Services where required,
– citizen information through the Corps’ competent communication Services, whenever widespread public information becomes necessary regarding the existence of any traffic and other problems.
Additionally, as emphasized in the related announcement, throughout the duration of measure implementation, both personnel and Greek Police resources will be in heightened operational readiness, mainly Traffic Services. Specifically, patrol cars, motorcycles and conventional vehicles will be deployed, with corresponding personnel and equipment for effective policing of the country’s road network.
Traffic ban for trucks over 3.5 tons
In addition to the above measures and for safer vehicle movement and improved road traffic during the October 28th celebration, besides traffic facilitation measures that will be taken at local level, a movement ban for trucks with maximum permitted weight over 3.5 tons will also apply.
Specifically, for outbound traffic the truck circulation ban will apply on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. For inbound traffic the ban will apply on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
