Relatives of victims from the Tempe tragedy and other organizations are calling for a new protest gathering outside Parliament today, Wednesday (22/10), at 8:00 PM, regarding the voting on an amendment concerning the redefinition of the area around the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Thodoris Eleftheriades, son of Maria Egout who lost her life in the accident, stated that the government’s initiative is attempting to distract public opinion from the upcoming judicial developments in the case. He emphasized that the victims’ relatives will continue to make their presence felt at the site, regardless of the voting outcome.
Tempe victim relative on Tomb of Unknown Soldier: This isn’t my position, it’s common sense
“This isn’t my position, it’s common sense. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is the wall, the steps, and up to where the police guard. Where we are now is simply the space in front of the monument. With the amendment they want to name this area as part of the monument too, because what’s happening here bothers them,” he said, speaking to Orange press Agency.
“This entire effort is being made purely to divert the conversation from the important issues we currently face regarding Tempe. In a few days there’s the court hearing for the Interstar videos, in March the main trial for Tempe begins, we’re also submitting evidence for Mr. Triantopoulos’s indictment, and we need to see what happens with the Judicial Council regarding Mr. Karamanlis and the general secretaries,” Thodoris Eleftheriades added.
“So many important things are happening right now and this entire effort is made so we discuss something else. I will be here. All the relatives will be here. What will they do? Come arrest us? Ridiculous,” he concluded.
