Sadness fills the journalism world with news of the death of Iro Kariofilli. The Alpha TV journalist who for years had served in crime reporting passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1st. Iro Kariofilli had been facing a serious health problem in recent years, which she had spoken about last year without giving many details.
“Because most of my colleagues know that in people’s lives there are some moments that are difficult and some moments that are extremely difficult and you have to fight. And you have to fight for things that others take for granted. And because this is such a difficult moment that exists in my own life, I want to tell you that for a year now – because of this difficult moment – I have reconsidered many things,” she had said, with it being known that she was giving a hard battle against cancer.
The funeral of the crime reporting journalist will take place on Friday in Serres, where she was from.
Iro Kariofilli: Her post about her health problem and reference to her colleagues
She herself last January had announced that she was facing a serious health problem she had been fighting for about 2.5 years.
“Life has turned upside down since then but… what matters is to face it with character, style and those you want by your side. And if to cope you need a little more chemistry, well okay… that might make you a person with super powers!!!!!! Another birthday and another year alive…,” she mentioned in her message.
Iro Kariofilli had spoken in May 2024 about the health problem she was facing, telling Katerina Kainourgiou that “because my colleagues know that there are difficult moments in my life like this moment, for about 1 year now because of this difficult moment I have reconsidered so many things. I fight for things that others consider granted. My colleagues are truly my family.”
“The only one who can understand you is someone who has experienced it on their own skin. To say that we need to have good psychology is a given, but tell me where they sell the button to press it so I can be zen all day. When the bad times come, I feel that a person brings out from within a strength they didn’t know they had,” the journalist had added, saying to those going through difficult times: “You will fall but you will get back up.”
