The deputy regional governor for road safety and traffic management center, Konstantinos Iaberis Markouizos, speaking to ERT, mentioned that the cameras will be installed on major avenues such as Kifisias, Mesogeion, Vouliagmenis, Marathonos, and Poseidonos, at dangerous points and intersections.
“They will be installed at various points, such as on Kifisias, Mesogeion, Vouliagmenis, Marathonos, Poseidonos, on major avenues that have points with intersections and dangerous junctions,” the deputy regional governor explained.
Konstantinos Iaberis Markouizos on AI cameras on roads: They will be installed at 100 points with the most violations and accidents
“The cameras will be installed at key points and will operate with artificial intelligence technology in an automated system that will detect violations, such as mobile phone use, seatbelt violations, red light running, and fines will be issued directly through Gov services,” he initially stated.
“These cameras do not exist yet, there was a misunderstanding and a journalist published about 40 cameras and then followed a domino effect of publications about the cameras, which is not true. Some of the cameras on traffic lights are traffic flow counters,” the deputy regional governor explained.
“The cameras that record violations have not been installed yet. Regarding those with artificial intelligence, there have been initial announcements from the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Ministry of Transport, but there are no mature studies, and no tenders have been conducted, as far as I know,” he continued.
“For the 1,000, 1,200 and 1,500 cameras from the ministry, I don’t have a clear picture yet. The Attica Region will install them at 100 junctions, at 100 points, which the Traffic Police have indicated to us, where many accidents occur or frequent violations happen,” he also said.
“Their purpose is to function preventively, to create a new culture, to develop better behavior. They will be installed at various points, such as on Kifisias, Mesogeion, Vouliagmenis, Marathonos, Poseidonos, on major avenues that have points with intersections and dangerous junctions,” he clarified.
