The taxi driver who allegedly played the leading role in a traffic accident in eastern Thessaloniki last Saturday, October 11, has been identified, apprehended and confessed. The incident occurred when he struck a police motorcycle carrying two officers. The alleged perpetrator, a 37-year-old man, reportedly hit the police motorcycle with his vehicle, and despite one officer being injured and the other managing to jump from the bike, he did not stop and continued driving. The incident took place in eastern Thessaloniki, following the PAOK vs Iraklis derby (84-82) for the 2nd round of the Basket League, when the two officers riding the motorcycle were returning to the police station from Pylaia.

The passenger reportedly holds the rank of brigadier, while the driver, who was injured in the leg and is still hospitalized at “Gennimatas” hospital, is reportedly a deputy superintendent. The accident occurred on Georgikis Scholis Avenue, and it is reported that the taxi driver was at fault as he was maneuvering to enter the opposite traffic lane. After the taxi was located, police identified his details and brought him to the Thessaloniki Traffic Subdirectorate. Through questioning, he confessed to his involvement in the traffic accident, as emphasized by police sources. Charges have been filed against him for bodily harm through negligence and hit-and-run.
