The Larissa District Prosecutor, Aikaterini Papaioannou, requested competent police authorities to conduct all laboratory tests and examinations deemed necessary by laboratories or victims’ relatives following the Tempe train crash. In the order for supplementary preliminary examination, the Prosecutor outlined step-by-step procedures that will follow victim exhumations for relatives who requested them.

Specifically, she requests laboratory examinations (DNA identification, biochemical, toxicological and any other tests that courts deem necessary or relatives may request). Families have the right to appoint technical advisors. When legal appointments are made, technical advisors may be present during procedures, as provided by relevant articles of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The prosecutor requests that laboratories conducting examinations be predetermined and announced in advance. After receiving results, authorities must prepare detailed reports and forward findings to the prosecutor’s office. Following completion of examinations, supplementary testimonies from victims’ relatives will be required.
Additionally, the prosecutor requested that individuals charged in the case file be informed that the case has been reopened and summoned for explanations.
