A tragic car accident occurred this morning at 09:45 on the National Highway between Serres and Drama, near Nea Zichni, at the Nea Petra Serres intersection. Two passenger vehicles collided side-on, resulting in the death of a 77-year-old woman who was traveling in the vehicle driven by her 78-year-old husband, who was injured. According to a statement from the Hellenic Police, the driver of the other vehicle was a 23-year-old man, who also sustained injuries.
Both drivers of the passenger vehicles were injured in the collision and transported by ambulance to Serres General Hospital, while the Traffic Police Department of Serres is conducting a preliminary investigation into the exact causes of the accident.

“Today (October 7, 2025) at approximately 09:45, at the 26.2 kilometer mark of the Serres-Drama national highway, a passenger vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Greek national collided side-on with a passenger vehicle driven by a 78-year-old Greek national, in which a 77-year-old Greek national was traveling, resulting in the fatal injury of the 77-year-old woman and injuries to the 78-year-old driver and the 23-year-old driver. A preliminary investigation into the exact causes of the accident is being conducted by the Serres Traffic Police Department.”
