An incredible incident occurred in Fyteies, Municipality of Xeromero, in Agrinio, today Tuesday 7/10, when the ground collapsed, creating a massive crater within the community, right next to residential homes. With the first light of day, the magnitude of this new dangerous ground subsidence became apparent.

The photographs from the scene are absolutely striking. The earth has literally opened up between houses in the village. Since the early morning hours, municipal personnel and elected officials have been at the site, which has been cordoned off, awaiting a technical team to assess the situation. The Municipality of Xeromero is simultaneously in contact with the Institute of Geological and Mineral Research (IGME) and the Directorate for Restoration of Natural Disaster Effects (DAEFK).
