A 57-year-old man with an extensive criminal history in Greece’s nightlife underworld has been in police custody since early Monday morning. The suspect, known by his nickname “Flit,” was located at a well-known establishment in Glyfada. Officers from the Anti-Extortion Unit discovered during a routine check that he was carrying a pistol and a small quantity of narcotics.
The middle-aged man had been walking free under restrictive conditions imposed in April 2024, as he allegedly participated in a serious violent incident at a nightclub in Gazi in September 2023.
According to police sources, he and 7-8 accomplices attacked a group of young people celebrating at the venue, using a waiter’s accidental bump as a pretext. The authorities’ investigation and witness testimonies revealed that despite the misunderstanding being quickly resolved, the violent gang brutally assaulted the young people, causing fractures, injuries and bruises to several members of the unsuspecting group.
Under the supervision of the Anti-Extortion Unit, experienced police officers have formed special investigation and control teams in nighttime establishments, leading to a reduction in such incidents, as until 2023 these cases were occurring repeatedly.
The 57-year-old’s trajectory in the nightlife scene is far from insignificant, and he allegedly had connections with the enforcer group of a prominent “godfather” of the so-called Greek Mafia, who was assassinated last April in Chalandri.
His criminal record is impressive, having been involved in:
1992: Extortion, Criminal Organization and Dangerous Bodily Harm.
2001: Manufacturing and Possession of Explosives, Formation of Criminal Gang, Theft and Weapons Violations.
2024: Dangerous and Aggravated Bodily Harm, Drug Violations, Weapons Violations
