The weather scenario is rapidly changing from today, Friday (26/9). The first autumn storm system is approaching, lasting from Saturday evening through Monday. But will the severe weather phenomena hit Athens? The main characteristics of this weather system will be rain and thunderstorms, a temperature drop of up to 6 degrees Celsius, and strong winds reaching 8 Beaufort today and tomorrow. Meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas also referenced this weather reversal in his Friday morning (26/09) post.
Furthermore, in his forecast, STAR meteorologist and former National Meteorological Service director Theodoros Kolydas emphasizes that the change in weather patterns is expected to become more noticeable from the weekend, with autumn characteristics in many regions of the country. “Weather change and attention needed in western Greece from Saturday afternoon and Sunday, mainly in the prefectures of Messinia, Ilia, and Achaia. Attention in western Central Greece as well as Zakynthos and Kefalonia. Athens is not significantly affected – Perhaps not at all. The fact is that from Sunday onwards the weather will be autumnal. Temperatures will drop by about 5 degrees and the feeling of cold will be more intense as strong northerly winds will blow. Winds locally from Friday in the Aegean 7 to 8 Beaufort, with slight weakening from Saturday afternoon,” wrote Mr. Kolydas.

As it appears, in Attica, according to the forecast, the rainfall will not be intense and the probability of significant phenomena is low, with weather remaining relatively mild. He characteristically notes: “Athens is not significantly affected – Perhaps not at all.” As he mentions, Sunday is a turning point and from then on the weather will be autumnal.
Weather: How the storm system will move
Initially, the storm’s center will be located in western Greece, while the strongest phenomena will manifest from Saturday night through Sunday in:
- Western Peloponnese (Achaia – Ilia)
- Southern Peloponnese (Messinia)
- Southern Ionian
- Aetolia-Acarnania
In Attica, Sunday will see light rain with temperatures ranging from 17 to 25 degrees Celsius, while in Thessaloniki on Monday thunderstorms are expected with temperatures from 17 to 23 degrees.
