On Tuesday afternoon (23/9), the Thebes prosecutor visited the stable in Boeotia, where the horrific case was revealed involving a 62-year-old public employee who allegedly buried her 91-year-old mother in a makeshift grave to conceal her death and continue receiving her pension. Accompanied by the head of the Tanagra Police Department and a forensic team, the prosecutor conducted a supplementary investigation at the site to locate additional evidence that would illuminate aspects of the case.
Simultaneously, a preliminary investigation has been ordered for intentional or possible intentional homicide, as well as for fatal exposure, indicating that criminal liability is being seriously examined. At the same time, a photograph of the 91-year-old woman found buried in the stable came to light, intensifying shock and revulsion.
Boeotia: New evidence about the 62-year-old – What concerned authorities
The 62-year-old, who was a supervisor at a Citizens’ Service Center (KEP), had a monthly net salary of approximately 1,700 euros. According to a Mega TV report, this amount was supplemented by the 1,400 euros she illegally collected from her dead mother’s pension, supplementary pension, and benefits, bringing the total monthly amount to 3,100 euros.
However, by decision of the Municipal Council, the 62-year-old was suspended from duty. According to a municipal councilor, the KEP where she was director had been underperforming for a long time because of her.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the accused has full ownership of a 322-square-meter property in Alexandroupoli, her place of origin, which she had left in 2007.
The 62-year-old’s testimony causes serious concern among authorities. According to the Mega report, the woman did not say that the grave was dug in August 2023, when she claims her mother died. Instead, she allegedly claimed that the hole was already dug by workers for other construction work, without specifying the exact date.
The forensic examination of the unfortunate elderly woman’s bones shed more light on the case, overturning the accused’s claim about the time of death. As the same report states, the forensic examiner found “bones without tissue that are decomposing,” characterizing the skeleton as “fossilized.” This finding indicates that the woman had been buried for years, with the burial time exceeding two years.
Shortly before these developments, the accused allegedly asked journalists not to bother her and her large dogs, which were barking threateningly. When she received persistent questions, she did not comment at all, responding: “I will not answer anything.”
The aunt’s testimony that “burns” the 62-year-old
New allegations about the horrific way the 62-year-old’s mother in Boeotia possibly met her death are coming to light, causing chills. A relative, the accused’s aunt, made shocking revelations about the neglect and false excuses her niece used.
The elderly woman stated: “Why was she left free? What will she do now that she’s free? Why kill her mother? Had her mother done nothing for her? I am not a judge, I don’t judge her, God will judge her.”
The witness referred to an incident in 2020, when the 62-year-old had transferred her mother to a care facility. However, the elderly woman did not want to stay there but to return to her home. “She was alive, she hadn’t ‘gone crazy’ as they say. She had dementia and didn’t like going there and was screaming, howling in there,” the aunt maintained.
She added that in the following years, the unfortunate mother “was completely neglected by her daughter, as she wouldn’t give her water, and even locked the refrigerator.” Indeed, she allegedly said that “She had cut off her food.” When the aunt asked why she did this, the 62-year-old allegedly justified herself by saying: “I cut off her food because she was eating too much and needed to lose weight, the doctor told me.”
When the accused’s aunt persistently asked where the mother was, she always received the same answer: “She told me she had gone to her sister’s, in Mandra.” However, as was later proven, the woman had been transported by ambulance. The witness estimates that the transfer happened “probably in 2020,” while emphasizing that during that period the mother was alert and in full communication with her environment.
