Overwhelming grief has engulfed Volos following the tragic death of 21-year-old Jason Popolis, who died after falling through a building’s skylight. The tragedy takes on Greek mythic proportions when one considers that he was studying at the Physical Education Department in Athens and had planned to leave the following Thursday, September 23, for Athens to get settled for the new academic semester starting the next week. The autopsy revealed his death was instantaneous.
Specifically, the 21-year-old student died immediately after the fall due to severe head trauma, according to thenewspaper. His father, Apostolis Popolis, a well-known businessman in the Thessalian city, and his mother, Joanna Epidexiou, a lawyer, mourn the loss of their only son.

Based on initial assessment, Jason Popolis was killed when plexiglass he stepped on while trying to move from the large rooftop where he was with two friends to a smaller one gave way. The three young men were reportedly having fun on the apartment building rooftop on Iolkou Street, at the intersection with Magniton. There they reportedly decided, driven by youthful impulse, to throw eggs at cars. A voice that was heard and, according to information, belonged to a police officer, caused two of the three to flee in panic, with young Jason trying to hide on another rooftop.
The Police continued until Tuesday afternoon, September 23, questioning building residents to complete the picture of the tragic incident that has brought grief to both the neighborhood where the family lives and the entire Thessalian city.
