Volos: The chronology of the tragedy
The tragic accident occurred in the early morning hours at the apartment building where the family lives, at the intersection of Iolkou and Magiton streets. The 21-year-old was on the rooftop with a friend listening to music. Neighbors who were disturbed by the noise shouted at them to stop, and the two young men ran to leave the area. At that moment, the 21-year-old stepped on a plexiglass surface covering the skylight, the material broke, and Iason fell into the void from the 4th floor, resulting in fatal injuries.
Reports indicate that his friend testified to police that the tragic incident occurred as they were leaving the rooftop after neighbors complained and asked them to leave.
While running to leave the area, he stepped on the plastic skylight cover which gave way, resulting in the fatal outcome. The unfortunate young man found himself falling from the 4th floor within seconds.
For 40 minutes after the tragic accident, his friends searched for him. Unable to find him in the building, they went back up to the rooftop, saw the broken plexiglass, and realized what had happened.
