The relief plan for the island of Crete is moving forward with the transfer of migrants to the mainland. A Coast Guard vessel is transporting the foreign nationals to the port of Kavala and from there to the accommodation center in Sintiki, Serres.

According to the website parakritika.gr, the transport is being carried out by the Greek Police, with assistance in security from the Coast Guard Special Operations Team. It should be noted that earlier, another boat carrying migrants was spotted south of Crete, which triggered an alarm among the authorities. According to information from cretapost, the 112 emergency service received a call from migrants who were on a boat south of Gavdos requesting help.



Crete: New migrant arrivals
A major rescue operation was immediately launched with the assistance of Frontex. The boat with the migrants has been located and is expected to be transported to the port of Gavdos.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Migration continues planning for the relief of Agyia.
In fact, today approximately 300 remaining migrants are expected to depart and will be transferred to some facility in mainland Greece.
