An 86-year-old man caused extensive damage with a sledgehammer after breaking into an agricultural plot owned by his niece, ultimately facing trial at the Volos Single-Member Misdemeanor Court. According to the case file, the two-acre agricultural plot with olive trees had been transferred from the family’s mother, who is no longer alive, to her daughter, while a week earlier, the daughter had leased the property to her cousin.
Around 6:00 PM on Monday afternoon, the woman went to the property with her husband to feed the animals. As she testified according to gegonota.news, the 86-year-old suddenly appeared, broke the locks, entered the building, and destroyed furniture and objects. The woman testified that she and her husband left immediately and notified the police. As she mentioned, she never had personal disputes with the defendant, but he has ongoing conflicts with his daughter, from whom the victim rents the agricultural plot.
Volos: What was found on the elderly man’s motorcycle with the sledgehammer
A bucket with a sledgehammer and tools was found on the elderly man’s motorcycle, while the damage caused to objects inside the building within the agricultural plot was estimated at approximately 760 euros: a marble table worth 500 euros, a sofa worth 200 euros, and flower pots with a total value of approximately 60 euros.
The defendant claimed that he went to the property to get wood for his stove, but saw that his wood had been thrown away from the shed where he stored it to keep it dry, and all he did was return it to its place. He categorically denied breaking anything inside the agricultural plot, alleging that his niece was lying.
The Court found the 86-year-old guilty of destruction of foreign property and disturbance of domestic peace, imposing a six-month suspended prison sentence.
