Significant developments in a major aspect of the OPEKEPE case include the findings of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority that were forwarded to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office by the head of the Authority, honorary Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Charalampos Vourliotis, regarding the subsidies section with central figures being former New Democracy politician Popis Semertzidou, her partner, and family members.
By order of the Authority’s president, assets belonging to four individuals are being frozen for at least 1.5 million euros, which according to findings were allegedly not used for the productive and development purposes for which they were requested. Specifically, the Authority’s investigation reportedly revealed that at least 1.5 million euros from the subsidies they collected was not allocated for the intended purpose.

The Anti-Money Laundering Authority has frozen all assets belonging to the two alleged main protagonists and their relatives, as well as the single-member LLC they had established, including two luxury cars – a Ferrari and a Porsche – along with 30 other vehicles they rented and commercially exploited. Additionally, according to the same sources, the freeze covers 11 properties, agricultural plots and land parcels. Meanwhile, Mr. Vourliotis has compiled a report on the case that was forwarded to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the felonies of fraud and money laundering. Furthermore, competent auditing authorities have been asked to investigate the remaining funds, approximately another one million euros, to determine whether fake or fictitious invoices were used to collect the disputed amounts.
