A well-known singer’s son has been in police custody since today (14/9) after allegedly assaulting a police officer. Yannis Malamas reportedly got into a fight with a taxi driver in Monastiraki, an altercation that drew the attention of a DI.AS. police unit who rushed to intervene. During the inspection however, tensions were still running high and according to reports, one of those involved – who turns out to be the son of beloved musician Socrates Malamas – headbutted a police officer.

The incident occurred around 5:25 AM when two young men, one of whom was the 20-year-old, exchanged insults with a taxi driver and allegedly hit the professional driver’s car door. During the police check, the 20-year-old, who is also a musician, resisted arrest. As he was being transferred to the local police station, he headbutted the officer putting him in the patrol car twice.
The police officer sustained injuries to his left cheekbone and was taken to 401 Military Hospital for first aid. The hot-headed young man was transferred to Acropolis Police Station where charges were filed against him for violence against public officials, insult, threatening behavior and simple bodily harm.
