For months, Roula Pispirigou has been at the center of the major case involving the murder of her three children. Every aspect of her life was meticulously examined under the scrutiny of public opinion, the press, and the authorities. After the first-instance conviction decisions, one would expect that the initial outcry would have subsided and serving her heavy sentences would now constitute her new reality.
Roula Pispirigou faces serious health problems – Cancer and autoimmune disease
According to information from the newspaper “ON time,” life-sentenced Roula Pispirigou now faces serious health problems. This development becomes paradoxical, given that in the past she had made several references to illnesses she claimed to be facing, without convincing anyone. It’s worth noting that during the first-instance trial for Georgina’s death, there had been no extensive reference to her health issues.
The most serious problem facing 37-year-old Roula Pispirigou, as emerges from court decisions, is an autoimmune disease: systemic lupus erythematosus. In her case, the disease has caused complications in the bones and nervous system. According to information, Pispirigou suffers from stiffness, a rare symptom of lupus, while the known skin abnormalities that accompany the disease have also appeared, which now cover up to 80% of her body, according to sources close to her.
Cancer knocks at the door – Precancerous cells and gynecological problems
Meanwhile, a tragic irony appears in Roula Pispirigou’s life. According to the same sources, the woman convicted for the death of her three children faces a gynecological problem. Information indicates that precancerous cells and dysplasias have been detected in her body, however cancer has not manifested and the condition is in an early stage.
Remarkable is the fact that during the police investigation and the process of taking statements, a person from Roula Pispirigou’s environment accused the 37-year-old of falsely claiming she suffered from cancer in order to keep close those she wanted. According to the same testimony, Pispirigou had produced a document that seemed to confirm her illness, which however concerned her grandmother and not herself.
Transferred from prison to prison
All of the above explains why Roula Pispirigou frequently moves from prison to prison, specifically from Eleonas Thebes to Korydallos. Sources from “ON time” report that every Thursday and Friday the 37-year-old is at Korydallos to undergo regular treatments. Recently, information had circulated that Pispirigou faces problems with fellow inmates at Eleonas and was requesting permanent transfer to Attica. However, it appears that the continuous transfers are mainly due to health issues.
The 37-year-old’s defense attorney, Vasso Pantazi, confirmed to “ON time” that Roula Pispirigou faces recurring and permanent health problems. Requests have already been filed for her permanent transfer to Korydallos, so that treatments can continue without the ordeal of weekly transfers. Meanwhile, the criminologist and former collaborator of the late Alexis Kougias is preparing the defense, as the Court of Appeals trial for Georgina’s murder case is scheduled for next January.
