Starting today and every Saturday, Athens metro will operate 24 hours. The 24-hour Saturday service will also extend to select bus lines and the tram during peak months. As Deputy Transport Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis stated in a recent television interview, public transport employees will receive financial compensation for night shifts, while additional hiring will take place.

“All the measures we are implementing – policing, new highways, cameras, and 24-hour Saturday service – aim to reduce as much as possible the very high number of deaths on Greek roads,” Kyranakis noted.
