A particularly moving moment was experienced at the European Parliament by Greek forest firefighter Nikos Paisios, when the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made special reference to the Greek forest commandos. Mr. Paisios spoke to parapolitika.gr about this experience, characterizing it as “an honor not only personal, but also collective for the Hellenic Fire Service“. As he said, this reference highlighted “the value and effectiveness of the Special Forest Operations Unit, as well as the international prestige that our country has acquired in forest firefighting“.
Nikos Paisios: Behind every fire, behind every difficult moment, there are people who fight daily with dedication
At the same time, he sent a message to his fellow firefighters, asking them to continue “with the same vigor, the same faith and dedication“, emphasizing that “despite the difficulties, our work has recognition, significance and impact, not only within borders but throughout Europe“. “Our consistency is the most resounding example of Greece that offers, protects and inspires“, he underlined.
In closing, Nikos Paisios addressed all Greeks: “Behind every fire, behind every difficult moment, there are people who fight daily with dedication. We give our best selves to protect what we all love: human life, property and our natural environment. Your support is our strength“.
