The case of the fire in the nursing home area of Patras is taking new dimensions, as even the second fire department report does not attribute the cause of the blaze to arson. At the same time, two young men, aged 21 and 25, who had been charged with arson remain in pretrial detention, a fact that causes serious concern for their families. The father of the 21-year-old spoke on ANT1’s “Summer Together” show, expressing his anguish over the case’s development and demanding the release of the young men.
Patras nursing home fire: “A release request has been filed,” says father of 21-year-old
“Our position is becoming stronger, the report itself doesn’t contradict anything but is more detailed than the first one, yet the boys remain in prison and this is something that worries us. At this moment, a release request has been filed. The way what happened has been communicated to the public, I think the investigator will expedite the process,” he initially stated.
“My son was not in the wrong place at the wrong time. My child started at 12 noon with his friend to go help with firefighting efforts. An entire city is burning, I understand how stressful such a situation is for all of us. At that moment, a narrative needed to be fed that the state machinery is functioning. What happened happened, I’m not trying to interpret the events,” added Mr. Vasilis Kostopoulos at another point.
