“There is no reason for concern. The earthquake was particularly felt in the area mainly due to the proximity to the epicenter,” stated Dr Efthymios Lekkas, Professor of Geology and President of OASP, on Parapolitika 90.1 and the show “First Plan” with Alexandros Klossa, on Tuesday morning, regarding the 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Evia. It is recalled that the 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday and was also felt in Attica. The earthquake’s epicenter was recorded 4 km northwest of Nea Styra with a focal depth of just 2.3 kilometers.

“We are not dealing with a high seismicity area or with large faults, and for local conditions, an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude is absolutely expected,” Mr. Lekkas added on Parapolitika 90.1. He continued, emphasizing that “so far about 20 aftershocks have been recorded, however there is nothing that causes us concern. The Seismic Risk Committee, which convened last night, assessed the situation and no particular danger was identified“.
“There is some minimal damage, which however is not significant and does not warrant concern,” he concluded.
