Specifically, the procedure was carried out with the collaboration of medical and nursing teams from the Intensive Care Unit of Venizeleio Hospital, specialized organ procurement and transplant units from Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, Evangelismos Hospital, PAGNI, as well as teams from Italy from Rome and Milan. As noted by hospital administrator Kostas Dandoulakis, the contribution of the National Center for Emergency Medical Care (EKAV) and Heraklion Traffic Police was significant, as they ensured the swift and safe transport of organs.
“The role of the Greek Transplant Organization (EOM) was catalytic, both in coordinating the procedure and in communicating with transplant units. The collaboration of all these agencies, with common respect for the donor and hope for the recipients’ lives, represents an outstanding example of humanity and medical excellence,” Mr. Androulakis characteristically stated, concluding that the Administration of Venizeleio Hospital “expresses its deepest and sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, who with courage and humanity decided to donate organs, offering our fellow human beings hope for a new life.”
