The death of little Panagiotis in August 2024 has been attributed to criminal activity, according to the report by the committee of forensic pathologists. Specifically, in the document, which spans approximately 100 pages, the forensic pathologists – members of the committee – rule out pathological causes as a probable cause and present hypoxia as the cause of death. “No pathological causes of death were confirmed and hypoxia emerges as the most compatible cause of death with the findings,” it characteristically notes.

It should be recalled that the main suspect for the death of little Panagiotis is Irini Mourtzoukou, who was remanded in custody after her confession to the murders of four infants. However, she denies her involvement in the child’s death case, although he died at her home and while under her care.
Irini Mourtzoukou: “I didn’t kill Panagiotakis”
Specifically, in a previous interview, Irini Mourtzoukou had expressed her pain over little Panagiotakis’ death and had said: «I want Panagiotakis back, you understand? I will turn heaven and earth for this child. Until now I’ve only run for him and I will continue to do so».
The grandmother of the 15-month-old infant Panagiotakis, who “passed away” under Irini Mourtzoukou’s supervision, speaking on SKAI television, had mentioned: “She calls me in the morning, 9-11, and then, at 11:00, when they let her go outside, I answer her. All this isn’t easy. Irini always talked to me; I know her secrets about Panagiotis’ death. I believe she has things to tell me. Yesterday she called me and told me they put her by a window to look at the street and asked if I could go see her from below, on the street. She told me she’s afraid she might hurt me. It hurts me that she doesn’t tell me what happened. I told her to tell me, and she was crying“.
“We met Irini through you, when she had come, and she seemed like an innocent little creature to me. Irini wanted to break free but couldn’t easily from drugs. She was having withdrawal symptoms, she was in pain, she was crying. I would lock myself in the room with her and helped her get through the withdrawal. She wanted to. She had a mother she never had,” she added.
“I saw Popi, she wasn’t well. I had to stay strong to keep Popi strong. I called the lawyer and he told me that it’s indeed true that Irini killed the children,” Popi’s mother emphasized.
“I had seen her becoming demonic, I have anger towards Irini and towards myself because yes, I didn’t know but on the other hand I got scared when I heard her fighting with a relationship she had, she had made an attempt on both girls she had,” added Foteini, Popi’s mother.
