The case of a missing Dutch tourist has ended in tragedy, as she was ultimately found dead in the Vikos Gorge.
The disappearance of the 65-year-old woman was reported via 112 by her husband, who informed authorities that he “lost sight of her within just a few minutes,” after she moved away on Sunday afternoon (31/8) to photograph the stunning landscape. The couple was vacationing with their motorhome in the area and had visited the famous Beloi viewpoint.
Tragedy at Vikos Gorge: Dutch tourist found dead after disappearance
A major search operation was launched early Monday morning (1/9), with the Fire Service Drone Team playing a crucial role, as the rocky and particularly inaccessible terrain made the search difficult. The unfortunate woman was ultimately found dead in a ravine approximately 300 meters below the Beloi point, in a particularly treacherous and dangerous area of the Vikos region.
The 5th EMAK unit was mobilized with specially trained rescuers to recover the 65-year-old’s body, who will attempt to descend into the gorge.
