Tragedy in Patisia: “The woman had a phobia of doctors”
According to what relatives told ERT, the woman had an intense phobia of doctors, to the point that she had chosen not to be monitored by a gynecologist during pregnancy. In fact, when it came time for delivery, she would go alone to the hospital to give birth. She had done the same with her two older children, whom she had delivered at Alexandra Hospital.
According to estimates, this time the delivery was likely premature, the woman panicked and didn’t make it to the hospital in time, as she had done previously.
Death likely from maternal hemorrhage
Forensic sources reported that initial findings indicate the 34-year-old woman likely died from maternal hemorrhage, meaning uncontrolled bleeding that led to her immediate death.
5-year-old and husband shocked by circumstances of mother’s death
Her husband, originally from Georgia, told authorities he became worried when he couldn’t reach her, as her phone was turned off. When he returned to their home, he saw his wife and newborn on the living room floor, unconscious.
He characteristically stated: “I wasn’t home. I rushed back from work because I was trying to contact my wife, but her phone was turned off. When I returned home, the children came to me and then I saw my wife unconscious on our living room floor, holding the newborn in her arms. The umbilical cord was still on her body. There were no scissors, I didn’t see anything like that. With a neighbor’s help, I tried to revive my wife by performing CPR, but it was already too late.”
The 5-year-old child told authorities that his mother was bleeding and then the baby was born. Afterwards, together with his mother, they took the newborn to the bathroom to clean it, while the child confirmed that the father was away from home and came later.
